National Women Sailing Association Conference

Capt. Nitzan Levy was a distinguished speaker at the June 2020 Virtual Conference of the National Women Sailing Association - OLÉ. During the "She Sailor Sea Story" segment of the event, Capt. Nitzan recounted her remarkable experience organizing the 2019 flotilla of 18 boats that welcomed 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg as she arrived in New York after her transatlantic journey. Capt. Nitzan's narrative, filled with enthusiasm and joy, brought to life the excitement of being part of this historic moment, as she shared the inspiring story of greeting the Swedish teenager who sparked a global movement to combat climate change.

Captain Nitzan Levy is a maritime professional and entrepreneur whose career seamlessly blends her passion for sailing with business acumen and community development. Born in the United States and raised along Israel's Mediterranean coast, she developed an early affinity for the sea that has shaped her professional journey. With over 25 years of worldwide professional and competitive sailing experience, Capt. Levy holds numerous prestigious certifications including a U.S. Coast Guard Master's license and is qualified as an instructor for multiple sailing organizations.
As the co-founder and Executive Director of Neptune's Daughter, Capt. Levy has established a successful boat charter brokerage that provides customized boating experiences worldwide. Prior to this venture, she founded Sailors NYC, introducing hundreds of NY/NJ residents to local waterways through instruction and community building. She has started a few businesses on her own and consulted many others on marketing and business development. Her leadership within the local boating community has been substantial, bringing her to lead on-water events and regattas. Capt. Levy has held significant leadership positions within Liberty Yacht Club, including serving as Rear Commodore and Digital Communications Officer. She currently serves as the Yacht Club's Vice Commodore. Deeply committed to community service, she volunteers as a sailing instructor for underserved youth. Capt. Levy embodies the rare combination of technical sailing expertise, business savvy, and community leadership.

The SDG flotilla was organized through the SDG Strategy Hub of the UN Office for Partnerships. It was led by Captain Nitzan Levy of Sailors NYC and Deputy Captain Barbara Marcoz, a United Nations employee and member of North Cove Sailing Club, and made possible by support from the Permanent Mission of Monaco to the United Nations, Project Everyone, the ClimateWorks Foundation, Laura Seydel, TBWA, and the United Nations Foundation.

Windcheck SDG Flotilla Welcoming Activist Thunberg to NY Harbor

Sustainable Development Goals Flotilla welcomes environmental activist Greta Thunberg to New York City. Led by Captain Nitzan Levy of Sailors NYC and Deputy Captain Barbara Marcoz, a United Nations employee and member of North Cove Sailing, the SDG Flotilla comprised 17 vessels provided by local New York City organizations including North Cove Sailing, Hudson River Community Sailing, Sailors NYC, and New City Kids. Additional support was generously provided by the United States Coast Guard.
